Mike’s Authentic Trekking in Chiang Mai offers immersive trekking experiences that combine nature, culture, and Mike’s Authentic Trekking offers guided tours based out of Chiang Mai, focusing on immersive cultural and nature experiences.

The tours range from one to three days, taking participants through scenic jungles and remote local hill tribe villages like Karen and Lahu communities. Activities include trekking, bamboo rafting on the Mae Taeng River, waterfalls and interacting with elephants through ethical encounters (no riding). Guests can enjoy meals prepared by locals and Overnight stay in basic accommodations are simple but comfortable. Guided treks are suitable for different skill levels, making them accessible to families and adventurers alike.

Enjoy a guided tour through the trails and mountains of northern Chiangmai. We will provide you with an ethnically unique and authentic trekking excursions through the lush, green and mostly untouched jungles of northern Thailand.

Our overnight tours take you on foot through the jungles of the mountains and hills of Chiang Mai to meet local hill tribes and stay in their remote jungle village overnight. Experience their authentic off-grid life-style. Let the white-noise of the jungle and its clean air give you the best sleep you’ve had in years. In the morning, get ready for an unforgettable bamboo rafting experience before meeting local elephants. Your visit will enrich you with a taste of Karen life that hasn’t changed in centuries, and the revenue will go straight back into supporting the Karen community.

Overnight Stay

We spend the night in a bamboo house in a Karen tribe village. You'll have mattresses, mosquito nets, pillows, and blankets provided. The toilets and bathroom are located outside the room, but note that there is no toilet paper or towels.

In the village we do not have electricity and therefore you will not be able to charge your phone. I recommend that you fully charge your phone before going on the trip and bring a power bank.

On our bamboo raft, we have a sturdy tripod to hang our bags. We also provide a waterproof bag for your convenience, to protect your clothes and valuable items.

The river rafting on specially made bamboo rafts through the jungle is an exciting adventure. A combination of calm, slow floating water, and more wild white water. Swimming next to the raft is weather permitted.

All menu items are freshly prepared by the guides and homeowners, with some ingredients sourced from local villagers to support their income. If you're vegetarian or have food allergies, please inform the guide right away.

We currently have two treks available.
Our first trek is easier and suitable for all the family. Our second option is for those who are more adventurous, and who want a moderately challenging trek.

After lunch, you’ll have two options: take a 2.5-hour trek that leads directly to the Lahu village, or opt for a 30-minute or one hour walk to the river. If you choose the river route, enjoy an exhilarating bamboo rafting experience, navigating the rapids for 1 hour as you make your way to the Lahu village. Upon arrival at the village, settle in for your second overnight stay, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner and spend time with the locals, experiencing their way of life. After breakfast, embark on another exciting bamboo rafting adventure for 1 to 2 hours, taking in the stunning scenery along the river. Conclude your rafting journey with a tasty lunch to refuel. We had a great time as a family with 15 year old teenager. Since it had rained heavily, the humidity was very high and therefore exhausting but it was worth it. The waterfall was great and our bamboo rafting a great adventure as the river carried a lot of water. However, we were always safe and learned and saw a lot. Our guide Mike's brother Sanit spoiled us well. Thanks Sanit for the great experience.

Amazing experience!!! Very complete activity with visit to the waterfalls, trekking, sleeping with a local family and learning from their traditions and customs, rafting with bamboo rafts and visit to a temple of rescued elephants. I fully advise the experience of 2 days and 1 night. Mike has been a lovely person and very dedicated to the whole group, we have learned a lot and have had a great time every day surprising us to the best. The trekking we did was 10km and we had a great time with the whole group... in the end we met lovely people and would repeat without hesitation!

We started with a quick stop at a small market for supplies and then drove to a waterfall for a quick swim. After this he guided during a 4 hour hike to a nice authentic mountain village with great views (~700m altitude) where he cooked us dinner and we stayed the night. The next day we started with a short hike to the river for a 2 hour relaxing bamboe ratfting experience during which you can also drift in the water along the raft. We finished the day with a visit to an elephant santuary.
During all this Mike was very knowlegable as he grew up in the area.

Mike is a fantastic guy!! He is very gentle and a kindly person! The experience begins with the waterfalls and, after a fast break in a local restaurant, the trekking begins. During the trekking you can feel the emotion of being in the jungle in a very wild way, in contact with nature, and also mike tells you all about the local habits. After the trekking you will stay in a typical local village house where you can feel the jungle vibes. Was amazing to sleep there!
The second day we did the bamboo rafting experience and the elephants tour, it was all amazing.
